7 Weekend Destinations From Delhi When You Are On A Budget | Travel On Budget |

A long weekend in Delhi -NCR means people would move out of Delhi and have a mini-vacation. That has been the culture here for decades and now with so much ease in the tourism industry with online portals, this has become even more convenient. Though we can access any place from Delhi for a weekend sometimes even budget becomes a constraint. So here is a list of weekend trips that can be wrapped up at very low expenses.

Where to travel from Delhi for a weekend at low cost?

1. Chandigarh

'The City Of Gardens' is an amazing option for a peaceful weekend trip. If you desire to take a rest for the weekend and also explore a few new places Chandigarh is the best option for you. The rock garden is the epitome of creativity, Sukhna lake is a wonderful place to sit peacefully and enjoy boat rides, and a few more beautiful gardens to spend your day at. Of the 7-weekend budget destinations from Delhi, Chandigarh is the most peaceful trip that you can build.

Distance from Delhi: 240kms

Read my experience of Chandigarh here: A Peaceful Budgeted Weekend In Chandigarh

You can make this trip in as little as Rs. 3000 per head

2. Jaipur

'Pink City' is one of the most prominent tourist places in India. Rajasthan is one state where you can still find the traditional Rajput culture and Jaipur is the first stop. The Amer fort, Nahargarh fort, Hawa Mahal, City Palace are a few of the places that one must visit. You can find many foreign tourists here. If you want to explore the roots of Indian culture Jaipur is a must-visit for you.

Distance from Delhi: 280kms

The travel to Pink city can be little expensive than Chandigarh but it can still be made in less than Rs.5000 per head

3. Mathura-Vrindavan

Know to be the Janmabhoomi of Krishna, Mathura is a good place to spend weekends if you are interested in visiting beautiful temples. Krishna Janmabhoomi, Iskon temple, and the most beautiful of all Prem Mandir in Vrindavan. Prem Mandir is extremely beautiful and looks even more elegant in the evenings. The hidden treasure that I found in Mathura is the Bhuteshwar temple. Not many visit it, but it is the oldest temple in the area, and it's believed to protect the cities from any harm ( a local story ). Why I loved the place is because I could find a peace that not all temples can provide.

Distance from Delhi to Mathura: 183kms

This is one of the cheapest vacations one can make from Delhi and we made it in approximately Rs. 2500 per head

4. Agra

Agra, of course, is a world-famous tourist destination. Being the home to the Taj Mahal, one of the seven wonders of the world, Agra sees a lot of foreign tourists in its share. Other than the Taj Mahal, Agra is also home to many other architectural beauties such as the Tomb of Akbar and Mariam-uz-Zamani, and the Agra fort. Though I feel these could be better maintained.  On my trip to Agra (which I have been to quite a number of times ) I realized that the local food is also amazing(benefits of being with a local).

Distance From Delhi: 233 km

The trip to the world-famous city of Agra and visiting the most beautiful wonder of the world would cost you not more than Rs.5000 per head for a weekend

5. Nainital:

Delhi is quite close to many hilly destinations of which is one of the most beautiful in Nainital. Built around the beautiful lake Nanital is a perfect weekend destination for summers. Take a walk on the mall road around the lake, visit the famous Naina Devi temple, go for a boat ride, visit the tiffin top on a horseback and definitely go for eco caves.

Distance from Delhi: 315 km

My budget for a weekend trip to Nainital was a little over Rs.5500

6.Rishikesh

Rishikesh is a destination in Uttarakhand around an hour's drive from the holy city of Haridwar. Tourists from other countries also visit this destination a lot. It is a hub for adventure sports like river rafting. The famous places to visit here are Laxman Jhula, Neel Kanth temple, Ramjhula, Triveni Ghat, and Geeta Bhavan. You should also experience Ganga aarti and eat out at the famous 'Chotiwala'. Be aware of the duplicates.

The distance from Delhi is almost 250km by road.

A weekend in Rishikesh would cost you approximately Rs. 5000 per head and that includes the cost of river-rafting

7. Mussoorie

Rightly called the Queen of Hills, Mussoorie is one of the most visited hill stations in Uttarakhand. I have been to Mussoorie more than a few times, so this place is not only a sightseeing hill station to me. It is a place where I relax, a place that has given me some peace. Though when you plan your first trip to Mussoorie there are a few places that you should keep on your checklist. Kempty falls is of course number one on the sightseeing list for Mussoorie. If you do go there don't hesitate to take a bath in the chilling water. Trust me, it is worth it. Other sightseeing points in Mussoorie are Lal Tibba, Gun hill point, Clouds endpoint, Bhatta falls. There is a wishing well too but not many people go there. Take a walk on Mall Road in the evening around sunset. The view of the city beneath is beautiful.

Distance from Delhi: 280 km

Visiting Mussoorie for a weekend would cost almost Rs.7000 per head .
