Karna Lake - A Hidden Attraction in Karnal , Haryana

Karna Lake is a small tourist attraction in the Karnal district of Haryana. It is almost 130 kms from Delhi and 120 kms from Chandigarh and easily accessible by road.

It is believed to be the place where Karna used to bathe and this was the exact place where Devraj Indra disguised as a brahman and asked Karna to Give up his Kavach and Kundal which he readily donated.

Karna - a character from the epic Hindu text -Mahabharata .

He is believed to be born with a Kavach and Kundal (or protected Armour). It is said that no weapon could tear this Armour. Krishna in order to protect Arjuna , had told Devraj Indra to ask for Karna's Kavach and Kundal as a donation. Karna was also known as Danveer Karna and when Devraj Indra demanded his Kavach and Kundal he tore it off his body and donated it.

It is said that the power of the Kavach so so much that Devraj Indra could not carry it with him and he hid it somewhere in the Himalayas. It is believed that this armour is still present somewhere in the Himalayas and many have been secretly searching for it .

This place is now a popular tourist attraction for locals. Boating can be done in half the area of the lake. There are gardens on the side where one can relax and have a good time. You can do boating here. There are ducks in the lake and here is a reminder to please not feed them processed food. They do not have the digestive system of a human.
There are small eateries around the lake. It is a great spot for pre-wedding shoots too. So if you are near Karnal - Karna Lake is a place you can go to be near nature and relax.

This visit made me think, is it always right to follow the Dharma? Why would someone be so stiff on their words that they would readily give up even their lives to fulfill the promises they made? Why would someone believe so strongly in a concept or in a promise or in Dharma that they would not see any right or wrong and keep on doing what they believe to be right?

Wasn't it wrong on Krishna's or Indra's behalf to ask for the Kavach in order to protect Arjuna? Just because they believed Arjuna was on the side of Dharma? But what is dharma and who defines it?

Karna is that unsung hero of Mahabharata who always followed his Dharma but was still wronged by those very preachers of Dharma.

Yes, this was definitely the beginning of Kaliyuga.
